Enhancing Digital Disease Surveillance and Integrating e-WARS System in Palestine

HISP MENA

Our team from the HISP Centre at the University of Oslo is proud to be part of an important collaboration supporting the enhancement of electronic early warning, alert and response systems (e-WARS) in Palestine, with support from the Robert Koch Institute and in partnership with HISP MENA, the Palestinian Ministry of Health and the Palestinian National Institute of Public Health.   Since 2018, DHIS2 has been implemented nationwide in Palestine for integrated disease surveillance and response, and case-based surveillance, with all primary health care programs using DHIS2 across districts. Building on this strong digital foundation, the current initiative focuses on upgrading surveillance intelligence by integrating e-WARS with DHIS2.

The collaboration aims to:

  • Develop automated outbreak thresholds and real-time alerts
  • Strengthen decision-support tools and links to Rapid Response Teams
  • Improve timely detection and response during health emergencies and conflict-related crises
  • Build sustainable local capacity for intelligent health surveillance

These efforts will further enhance Palestine’s ability to respond quickly and effectively to public health threats. This work was highlighted last month during the launch of e-WARS in Palestine, and will also be presented at the Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN) Global Meeting of Partners in the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region. We’re grateful to all partners involved for advancing collaborative, data-driven public health surveillance.Hashtags: #DHIS2 #eWARS #Palestine #PublicHealth
